In principle, it is possible for AI models to be installed directly on your own computer, i.e. completely without Internet access (Things to consider when testing) and can be carried out completely privately (important with regard to data protection). However, it should be noted that even on powerful private computers, only smaller, less powerful models can be operated sensibly (e.g. GPT-OSS 20B with around 21 billion parameters). For larger, more powerful models such as GPT-OSS 120B, the hardware requirements are so high that operation on conventional devices is virtually impossible.
