AI-generated videos including sound — and how to recognize them

🎥 Deceptively real AI videos

Google recently released Veo3 — an AI system that can generate videos and sound:

Numerous AI-generated videos have now appeared on social media, often without it being apparent at first glance. The quality of this content is constantly increasing. It is therefore no longer only important to critically question AI texts, but especially when it comes to videos — especially when they deal with controversial topics.

Veo3 is available to anyone who's willing to pay $250 per month. Although providers are installing protection mechanisms to prevent misuse, some of these could be circumvented in the past.

Detect AI videos

AI-generated videos can often be identified by minor discrepancies in the mouth area when speaking or by a “blurred” appearance. However, these clues are becoming increasingly subtle.

Practical idea for your lesson

Teachers can watch two videos together with learners/students — one that is AI-generated (e.g. with Veo3) and a real one. The learners/students should then discuss whether and how they recognized the AI video and which features they noticed. In this way, they work together to sharpen awareness of AI-generated content and promote critical questioning.
